The Lesbian Herstory Educational Foundation,Inc also known as the Lesbian Herstory Archives, gathers, preserves, catalogs and makes available to the community records of Lesbian lives, culture, activities and experiences. With this material,l available in a welcoming and safe environment, each generation of Lesbians is able to learn about and celebrate its own history and the history of other generations. Further, with the accessibility of the broad range of documents and materials, Lesbians of each generation can analyze, interpret and re-evaluate the understanding of the Lesbian experience. The Archives therefore by its presence not only preserves and presents history it also shapes and expands the understanding of Lesbian cultural history.
