St. Louis Islamic Center

The St. Louis Islamic Center (STLIC) is a non-profit organization and a Bosnian Islamic institution in St. Louis, Missouri. Established in early 2010, it is part of the Islamic Community of North America Bosniaks (ICNAB) and is dedicated to serving the spiritual, religious, and communal needs of local Muslims by nurturing their faith and upholding their values.

Founding and Purpose

The STLIC was founded to address the growing needs of the mature Bosniak community in St. Louis. The center aims to preserve the Bosniak tradition and culture, with a focus on preventing cultural alienation and promoting religious and moral regeneration among Bosniaks. It also emphasizes programs designed to protect youth from negative assimilation, ensuring they maintain strong connections to their heritage.

Nur Mosque

On November 9, 2013, STLIC began constructing the Nur Mosque in southern St. Louis County. The mosque was completed at a cost of $1.5 million and officially opened on April 1, 2017. This development marked a significant milestone for the Bosniak community in the region, providing a dedicated space for worship and community activities.

Governance and Operations

The STLIC operates under the guidance of an advisory board, which monitors and corrects the work of the Jamaat Board as needed, according to civil and religious laws. The Jamaat Board, composed of seven members, oversees the day-to-day operations of the center.

Activities and Events

The center organizes various religious and cultural events throughout the year, including prayers, seminars, and community gatherings. These events are crucial in strengthening the bonds within the Bosniak community and fostering a sense of unity and identity.
