Amanda Smedley, ServiceSource Director of Long Term Community Integration Services, joined Fairfax County, Virginia, Supervisor Walter Alcorn, Supervisor Rodney Lusk, and Dranesville District - Supervisor Jimmy Bierman at the awards breakfast for finalists in this year’s Fairfax Area High School Shark Tank Technology Challenge, presented by Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS). Now in its ninth year, the competition challenges students in Fairfax County, Fairfax City, and the City of Falls Church, to develop an innovative device or app that will have a positive impact on the lives of older adults or adults with disabilities. Varsha Ayala and Eesha Viswanathan, who attend The Madeira School, were awarded first place for their wearable device, RapidX, that cuts the time for paramedics to retrieve patient data from eight minutes to eight seconds, helping to reduce human error and overcome language barriers. Other competition judges were Pete Lamont of INTEGRITYOne Partners, Tiffany O’Neal of AIMVirginia NCS Technology Educators Ronaldo Muradez and Ramin Ghodoumipour. (fb)
