[A Kind and Genuine Spirit] Beta Theta Pi mourns the loss of Lloyd Kirk, Kansas ’55, a loyal brother with an enduring spirit of dedication and service to the family, country and Fraternity he so dearly loved. Lloyd died peacefully on February 13 at the age of 91. Lloyd was initiated into the Alpha Nu Chapter at the University of Kansas on September 27, 1953, where he later served as chapter president. His time as a Beta volunteer began some 15 years later, first as a district chief before being elected in 1980 as the Fraternity’s 23rd General Secretary. Even after his successful tenure, he returned to serving Beta Theta Pi locally as the house corporation president of the then-young and aspiring Epsilon Lambda Chapter at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The men were so grateful for his contributions and guidance that they honored him with Roll No. 72 on the chapter’s official roll. Lloyd was equally as generous with his treasure. A regular donor to the Beta Leadership Fund, he also served as a donor and volunteer for the Beta Foundation’s Upon These Principles Capital Campaign — the then-largest fundraising campaign in Greek world history. For his years of loyalty, he was honored in 1984 as Kansas City’s “Beta Man of the Year” and in 2016 with the Francis W. Shepardson Award — Beta’s highest honor for Fraternity service. After graduating from Kansas, he entered the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Cold War with the Strategic Air Command as a B-47 jet bomber navigator. He then worked in various capacities and locations across the U.S. for IBM Corporation, Harding Glass Industries and Moore Business Forms. He was an active member of his church and participated in several community organizations. Lloyd was preceded in death by his Beta Sweetheart of 49 years, Millie. They are survived by son, Dave, daughter, Katie, and five grandchildren. May Brother Lloyd Kirk, Roll No. 942 of the Alpha Nu Chapter of Beta Theta Pi, rest in peace. Forever in ___kai___. (fb)
