In ‘The Glenn Miller Story’ (1954), Stewart stars as the legendary bandleader himself, directed by his frequent collaborator Anthony Mann. Glenn Miller’s real-life widow, Helen—seen here straightening Jimmy’s tie alongside Gloria Stewart and June Allyson—personally chose Stewart for the role, believing only he could capture her husband’s quiet determination and charm. Allyson plays Helen Miller in the film, and her chemistry with Stewart—also on display in ‘The Stratton Story’ (1949) and ‘Strategic Air Command’ (1955)—was so convincing, fans often assumed the two were married in real life. A box office success on release, the film proved that audiences still had a big appetite for big band. Stewart himself considered it one of the most personally meaningful roles of his career. See it in our private theater thru the weekend at 1 p.m. We’re continuing our celebration of the 30th anniversary of The Jimmy Stewart Museum—right here in Jimmy’s hometown of Indiana, PA. Matinees are included with admission! (fb)

What a wonderful way to celebrate the museum's 30th anniversary and Jimmy Stewart's birthday! We are grateful that the members of the Stewart family came to town including Kelly Stewart-Harcourt, Ethan Perry and Sandy Hart. It was so exciting to have them here! We had Stewart's restored P-51 Mustang at our Jimmy Stewart Airport. What a beautiful plane with an incredible history! Thank you to Warren Pietsch and his family for bringing it here for all to see. "Jimmy" Stewart the future service dog with Warrior Canine Connections paid us another visit and got to meet Kelly! The Jackson family invited us to see Colonel Sam Jackson's home in Apollo, PA. Thanks to Rob Jackson and Bill Kerr! Big thanks to Mark Altrogge for his beautiful painting of the museum. Last but certainly not least, thank you to Emmy award winning actor Brian Rohan for bringing his amazing one-man show to town. It was unforgettable! It takes a village to pull this off and there are so many more people to thank...so here it goes. Thank you to the JSM Board of Directors, especially Keith Rearick, Erin Conlin, Gregg Van Horn, Pam Miller and WTAE’s Mike Clark. Thanks to the staff at the museum who keep the museum running, especially Ruth Barkey, Indiana County Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana County Tourist Bureau, Hilton Garden Inn Indiana at IUP, the incredible Indiana Theater crew of Steve Holliday, Suzi Tipa & Jeff Tobin, Romeo's Pizzeria & Mediterranean Kitchen, the Indiana County-Jimmy Stewart Airport, InFirst Bank, Terry Sabo, Riziki Cafe, Pro Packet Printers, Hello Concierge and Memory Lane Media. Phew, I hope we didn't forget anybody. (fb)
