🆕 Our Senior Policy Associate Caitlyn Passaretti spoke on Caucus Corner, a podcast run by the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and Asian Legislative Caucus, to discuss the Solutions Not Suspensions bill. CCC has supported the passage of this bill for years. ➡️ Why is this important? 👎 In New York, students lose hundreds of thousands of days in the classroom each year to suspensions, often for normal, youthful behavior. These punishments disproportionately impact Black and Latinx students, children with disabilities, and youth who identify as LGBTQIA+, often leading to learning loss, disengagement, poor school retention, and an overarching school-to-prison pipeline. 🫶 We know that accountability and supportive school environments are not mutually exclusive. The Solutions Not Suspensions bill would reform the harsh usage of school suspensions by establishing restorative, age-appropriate, and equitable disciplinary measures, ensuring suspensions are a last resort rather than a first. 🎧 Listen here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/6OshA9QSBXJOV8z5gPWeog?si=vOgd2e8qRySjcxwYEmGyBQ #SNS #SolutionsNotSuspensions @followers (fb)

📣 Join us this Friday to rally against a proposed CityFHEPS rent increase! 📅: Friday, May 30 🕘: 10:30am 📍: Steps of City Hall 🏙️ Ahead of a hearing on CityFHEPS, the Family Homelessness Coalition, lawmakers, and advocates will rally against the Adams administration’s proposed rule changes to increase the income contribution from 30% to 40% for some CityFHEPS recipients. 📊 Research shows that homelessness begins to surge once housing costs reach 32% of household income. Right now there are already ~40,000 children in city shelters on any given night. Higher rent burden will put more families at risk. 📣 Join us to support families and reject this threat to housing stability. @followers #Housing #Homelessness #CityFHEPS #HousingVouchers #FamilyHomelessness #NYC #NYCShelter #Homeless #Advocacy (fb)
