Center for Healing & Hope
Overview
The Center for Healing & Hope is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing medical and advocacy services in a manner inspired by Christian values. Founded in 1999, it operates within Elkhart County, focusing on serving uninsured individuals and immigrants who face economic challenges and lack adequate healthcare access.
Mission and Services
The organization's mission revolves around providing comprehensive medical care and support services to those in need. It caters specifically to individuals who are uninsured and fall below 300% of the federal poverty income level for their household size. Key services include:
- Medical Care: Services are provided by appointment and include immigration physicals, chronic disease screening, treatment, and education, as well as women's health services.
- Immigrant Advocacy: CHH supports immigrants through the Goshen Resident ID (GRID) program, the Natural Helpers initiative, and an Immigrant Resource Guide, all designed to help these communities access needed resources.
Linguistic Support
Recognizing the diverse linguistic backgrounds of its clients, particularly those from Spanish-speaking communities, CHH employs bilingual support staff and uses interpreters to ensure that communication barriers are minimized.
Organizational Structure and Funding
As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, donations to CHH are tax-deductible. The organization relies heavily on contributions and grants to sustain its operations. It has faced challenges in recent years, including facility inadequacies and leadership transitions, but has worked to revitalize its operations through strategic planning and community engagement.
Impact and Growth
Despite challenges, CHH has made significant strides in expanding its services and impact. It became a state-affiliated COVID-19 testing site during the pandemic, conducting over 25,000 tests. The organization's ability to adapt and innovate has allowed it to continue serving vulnerable populations effectively.
Volunteer and Donation Opportunities
CHH encourages community involvement through both financial support and volunteer opportunities. Volunteers can assist in clinics, providing medical services, administrative support, and helping immigrant communities access vital resources. Donations are crucial for sustaining these services and can be made through various means, supporting CHH's mission to provide healing and hope to those in need.
